Hi Nikka, how did you come to painting? Why do you paint?
Even as a child and teenager I was interested in art. My parents took me to every exhibition in town and we went to many concerts together. It was probably what influenced me and encouraged my love for painting. I can remember that I painted while listening to Pink Floyd when I was a schoolgirl …

How do you combine your job with making art?
My actual profession is extremely creative and intense. Painting is the perfect opportunity for me to continue my creativity in my spare time, but without any time pressure or obligation. This is the perfect balance for my soul. Sometimes it has something meditative, extremely calming and spiritual … Pink Floyd, the Stones or Fleetwood Mac are bands that inspire me the most and sometimes my loved ones are with me spending their time in my studio in Ehrenbreitstein, Koblenz.
Which materials do you prefer to use?
At the moment I prefer to work with different acrylics; colors, inks and sprays as well as oil and crayons. Canvas is the basis for all paintings. As tools I use a palette of brushes, sponges and spatulas.
How would you describe your paintings?
In my paintings I combine colors, shapes and layers. The different techniques often create a third dimension, which makes it even easier to experience them. Because of their size, some works are like a journey in which I can lose myself.
Are there any artists that inspire you in particular?
I have been enthusiastic about Dalí and Jean-Michel Basquiat for over 30 years. Currently Lucy Dodd inspires me the most.
Art makes you happy. What else?
Los Angeles, especially Topanga in the Malibu Mountains, is my second home … incomparably inspiring and spiritual. This city is literally vibrating and full of love.
The rough west coast of Denmark with its wonderful colors and shapes is also a kind of home and my happy place. I spent a lot of time in this environment during my childhood and youth.
